Sex

In general, everyone is entitled to equal access to education, regardless of whether they are male or female. However, the law specifically allows single-sex schools. This means that, in a co-educational school, male and female students must have the same educational opportunities.

In general, any practice that restricts a particular course or activity at the school to male or to female students is likely to be unlawful.

Competitive sports can be limited to males or to females, if it is a type of sport where strength, stamina or physique make a difference to results.

Rules that have an unfair effect on male students compared to females, or on female students compared to males, will be unlawful unless there is some good reason why the rule is needed.
