Identity of spouse or partner

Everyone is entitled to equal treatment in community life, regardless of who their spouse or partner is. Here’s an example of spouse or partner’s identity discrimination in goods and services:

Vikram, whose wife is the local MP, had just become the executor of his dad’s estate and wanted to see a lawyer for advice. When he rang a local law office, the receptionist told him “Sorry, but the lawyer won’t see you. He stood for Parliament against your wife last year and doesn’t want anything to do with her”.

There are some exceptions. If there would be a danger to someone’s health or safety, a conflict of interest or a risk to confidentiality because of who the spouse or partner is then that can be taken into account.
