Sexuality
Everyone is entitled to equal treatment in community life, regardless of their sexuality.
Sexuality discrimination is treating someone unfairly because they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or straight. Here’s an example of sexuality discrimination in accommodation:
| Brett and Jarrod moved to a South Australian regional town for Jarrod’s work as a radio announcer. Brett phoned a local real-estate firm and was told about a rental property close to Jarrod’s work. He arranged to meet the agent there to look it over. When Brett and Jarrod arrived together, the agent apologized and said that the owner wouldn’t let the house to a gay couple. |
This would also be discrimination even if the people concerned are not actually gay, but the agent just assumes they are.
