Marital or partnership status
Everyone is entitled to equal treatment in community life, regardless of their marital or domestic partnership status.
Marital or domestic partnership status includes being single, married, separated, divorced, widowed or living together de facto (opposite-sex or same-sex). It does not include having a boyfriend or girlfriend if you don’t live together.
There are exceptions to the general rule. For instance, clubs for people of a particular marital status, such as singles clubs, are legal.
De facto couples who have lived together for at least 3 years, or have had a child together, are legally recognised in South Australia and have certain civil rights. Read more about the rights of couples living together.
