Association with a child
It is against the law to refuse someone accommodation because they will share it with a child. Landlords cannot give preference to singles or childless couples over families.
It isn’t against the law to have recreational accommodation for adults only, if there is a good reason for it. This means that resorts and holiday accommodation are allowed to offer ‘child-free’ holidays.
Bottle and breastfeeding
The law protects people’s right to breast- or bottle-feed a child in shops, restaurants and other public premises. A person feeding a baby can’t be asked to leave a store, or to feed them in an isolated area. Here’s an example:
| Elisabeth was having a coffee at a trendy café while breastfeeding her baby. A waitress politely asked her to move to a corner table. When Elisabeth asked why, the waitress said it was inappropriate for everyone to see her breastfeeding. |
